Army officer killed, 2 others wounded in CamSur shooting

CAMP OLA, Albay - An army sergeant died on the spot while a barangay captain and a tanod were wounded when unidentified suspects fired at them while having a drinking spree at a wake in Sitio Rakitan, Brgy Dela Fe, Buhi town in Camarines Sur province Sunday night.

Chief Inspector Malu Calubaquib, spokesperson of Police Regional Office 5 (PRO-5) identified the slain soldier as Sgt. Benito Ronquillo Bien, 45, a member of the Philippine Army assigned to Bicalen, Presentacion town and a resident of Sitio Pito, Brgy Sagrada, Buhi, Camarines Sur Wounded were barangay captain Tonyben Tabalde and the tanod Mario Ibanita.

Initial investigation disclosed that at around 9 p.m. on Sunday, while the victims were having a drinking spree at the wake of a certain Christian Ramizares, the suspects appeared and shot Bien several times on the head.

The barangay captain and tanod sustained gunshot wounds in different parts of the body and were rushed to Doña Maria Josefa Foundation, Inc. in Iriga City for treatment.
