All set for ‘Traslacion’ on January 9

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) will be implementing a “no sail zone” on Pasig River and the nearby waters of Manila Bay during the annual “Traslacion” on January 9.

According to PCG Capt. Rolando Punzalan, the agency will be deploying 30 watercraft to cover security in the areas where the procession will pass or cross.

He also gave the assurance that Jones Bridge will be secure for millions of devotees who are expected to traverse it during the procession.

Department of Public Works and Highways-National Capital Region Engineer Rey Rosario said some sections of roads in Manila were still undergoing repair to ensure that the route for the procession of the Black Nazarene would be safe and cleared of any obstruction.

Rosario said that they were also conducting local and national road clearing in the city in cooperation with the Manila Department of Public Services and Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA).

The MacArthur bridge, which connects Sta. Cruz to Taft Avenue in Manila, is still undergoing repair and will not be included in the route, he said.

He added that the bridge will take two more years to finish before it could be brought back as part of the traditional route of the procession.

In previous processions, the route of the Traslacion passed through P. Burgos, crossing Lagusnilad Bridge in front of the Manila City Hall before it makes its way to Jones Bridge.

Meanwhile, the Bureau of Fire Protection-NCR will also deploy 25 fire trucks in Quiapo, Manila and Quirino Grandstand.

Dr. Patrick Co of Department of Health-NCR said that they will deploy 14 health emergency response teams on the route of the Black Nazarene procession. Co said that they have already advised medical teams to standby in the different hospitals in Manila.

The procession of the Black Nazarene image will start at 7:00 a.m. at the Quirino Grandstand on January 9.

From Quirino Grandstand the procession will turn right to Katigbak Drive then straight to P. Burgos (westbound lane) going to P. Burgos (southbound lane) and on to Jones Bridge.

It will then turn right to Dasmariñas, turn right again towards Plaza Santa Cruz, turn left to Palanca St., turn left to Quezon Blvd, turn right to Arlegui St., turn right to Fraternal St., turn right to Vergara St., turn left to Duque de Alba, turn left to Castillejos St., turn left to Farnecio St., turn right to Arlegui St., turn left to Nepomuceno St. (counter-flow), turn left to Aguila St., turn right to Carcer St., turn right to Hidalgo through Plaza del Carmen, turn left to Bilibid Viejo St. through Puyat, turn left to Guzman St., turn right to Hidalgo St., turn left to Bautista St. (Barbosa), turn right to Globo de Oro through under Quezon Bridge, turn right to Palanca St., then turn right to Villalobos St. through Plaza Miranda going to Quiapo Church.
