Infrastructure damage due to ‘Usman’ reached P2.49 B — DPWH

Infrastructure damage due to the onslaught of tropical depression “Usman” have reached P2.49 billion, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said Thursday.

The department have recorded a total of P2,490,618,500 damages in infrastructure in two regions, which were mostly affected by the recent tropical depression.

Infrastructure damage in Bicol region is pegged at P2,083,518,500 while Region IV-A recorded 407,100,000 infrastructure losses.

Closed roads

While most of the roads that were ordered closed due to damages, flooding, and landslides have already been opened, five road sections in Bicol Region and Region IV-A remain impassable as of Thursday afternoon.

A section of Marikina-Infanta Road in Barangay Magsaysay, Infanta, Quezon remains closed due to road cut. Assessment on the damaged road was underway as of Thursday, the DPWH said.

Road sections of DM Jct. Legazpi-Sto. Domingo-Tabaco-Cam. Sur Bdry. Road passing through the villages of Maynonong, Dapdap, Mayong in Tiwi, Albay was still impassable as of yesterday due to landslides. Clearing operations in the areas were also underway.

Buyo Bridge 2 along Legaspi City-Punta de Jesus Road, Molabago Area in Albay is still closed, the department furthered. The bridge’s approach and its flood control structures were damaged due to flooding in the area.

Landslides also caused the closure of Pili-Tigaon-Albay Bdry. Road in Camarines Sur, which remain impassable. Clearing operations in the areas were underway.

The damaged Waras Bridge located along Baao-Iriga City-Nabua Road in Camarines Sur was still not passable. The local DPWH office identified Jct. Bato-Masoli-Iriga Road to Iriga-Nabua Road to Daang Maharlika Road-Naga Road as alternate route.

The roads are closed to all types of vehicles.

Meanwhile, several road sections in Region V are only one-lane passable as of Thursday. These include Daang Maharlika Road sections in Camarines Norte; Maligaya-Caramoan Road in Bahay, Camarines Sur; CCR – Virac – San Miguel -Viga road section in Barangay Kilikilihan, San Miguel, Camarines Sur; CCR Pandan Candan – Caramoran – San Andres – Virac road sections in Barangays Lubasi, Manambrag, Mayngaway, Cabungahan in San Andres, and road sections in Barangays Tubli and Guiamlong in Caramoan; and the Baras-Gigmoto-Viga Road in Barangay Sioron,Gigmoto.
