In a statement, Murad said they were saddened the blast happened while they were in the thick of preparations for the plebiscite on the ratification of the Organic Law for the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (OLBARMM) on January 21, 2019.

He said the “dastardly act of putting an improvised explosion device with intent to kill or harm civilians is an act of cowardice, inhuman, and atrocious.”

Murad said it was still too early to make conclusions on the motive of the bombing and urged authorities to sincerely and thoroughly investigate the incident, examine all angles, and make the results public.

“We should not allow any party or group to make premature conclusions or draw insinuations so as to advance their own personal interest and political agenda,” he added.
