4 tectonic quakes jolt Davao Oriental province anew

BUTUAN CITY – Four mild tectonic earthquakes jolted Davao Oriental province anew, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

The regional office of the Southern Mindanao Office of Civil Defense (OCD) and provincial disaster risk reduction and management council there reported no damage or injury.

In its bulletin, Phivolcs said a 3.0 magnitude earthquake was recorded at 9:15 a.m. on Tuesday (Jan. 2).

The epicenter was plotted 125 km southeast of Governor Generoso town, Davao Oriental province, with a depth of only 9 km.

Earlier, a 2.7 magnitude tremor was registered at 6:54 a.m. of the same day (Jan. 2).

The epicenter was traced 147 km southeast of that same town (Governor Generoso) and province, it said.

The tremor had a depth of 14 km.

At 6:11 a.m. of the same day (Jan. 2), a 3.1 magnitude tremor was also recorded, the state agency said.

The epicenter was located 125 km southeast of that same town and province, with a depth of 17 km.

A 3.6 magnitude earthquake was also registered at 6:07 a.m., also of the same day (Jan. 2) and its epicenter was pinpointed 163 km southeast of Governor Generoso town of that same province, with a depth of 123 km, Phivolcs said.

The four tremors were all tectonic in origin and no tsunami alert was raised by the state agency.

Rescue team and personnel of the provincial disaster risk reduction and management council there was alerted following the series of mild earthquakes that struck the Pacific Ocean facing province in Southern Mindanao region.
