DAVAO CITY – An Airbus 321 of the Philippine Airlines (PAL) bound for Manila failed to take off on Wednesday afternoon after its engine reportedly exploded due to a “bird strike.”
The PR 2814 was scheduled to depart Francisco Bangoy International Airport (formerly) Davao International Airport at 1:05 p.m. and supposed to arrive in Manila at 2:55 p.m.
One of the passengers who requested anonymity said an explosion was heard shortly before the aircraft was about to take off causing the aircraft to halt in the middle of the runway fronting the old airport in Sasa, this city.
Passengers stayed inside aircraft until 2:10 p.m. before they were told to disembark. They were transferred to another flight scheduled at 7 p.m. today.
