Construction of first public hospital in Bocaue underway

(Freddie Velez/ MANILA BULLETIN) With a total lot area of 9,425 square meters, the Joaquin Villanueva Medical Center will be the first public hospital in Bocaue. The entire lot was donated by the Villanueva family and named after the senator’s grandfather who was a veteran of World War II and Olympic sprinter who represented the country at the Far Eastern Games for four consecutive years in the 1920s. The project cost is estimated at P250 million and the hospital will have a 50-bed capacity and can employ up to 150 medical and allied health professionals, including jobs in administration, engineering, and housekeeping. The Joaquin Villanueva Medical Center will be departmentalized and equipped with the services in the specialties of medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, surgery, among others. There will also be a provision for general intensive care unit (ICU) for critically-ill patients, tertiary clinical laboratory, and imaging facility and mobile x-ray within the center. "We express our sincerest gratitude to the national government for supporting our advocacy in providing quality healthcare to our kababayans. For the longest time, the municipality did not have its own hospital,” Villanueva said. “With the construction of the Joaquin Villanueva Medical Center, the people of Bocaue no longer have to endure the long lines at public hospitals in Malolos or Sta. Maria,” the Bulakenyo senator added. "The construction of this hospital will provide access to affordable and quality health service to the residents of Bocaue. This project is part of our commitment to continue and improve our health programs not just in the province of Bulacan but in the entire country as well," Villanueva said.
