CEBU CITY—A 30-year-old man suspected to be involved in illegal drugs was killed in an alleged shootout with police on Christmas Day.

Layme Anubling shot at policemen who were on a surveillance mission in Barangay Tisa, the police reported.

Chief Insp. Keith Allen Andaya of the Punta Princesa Police Station said Anubling was in the list of the Barangay Anti Drug Abuse Council.

Anubling was jailed in 2016 for drug possession and was released last June 2.

Andaya said the surveillance team chanced upon a group of men. The men scattered after seeing the police but Anubling started firing shots.

Andaya said his team returned fire, hitting Anubling in different parts of the body.

The wounded Anubling tried to run before slumping on the ground.

Police said three packs of suspected shabu worth P102, 000 were recovered from him.
