The Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC), LRT-1 operator, transforms Manila’s historic Liwasang Bonifacio into a family-friendly Christmas park on Friday evening.
With the theme “Kabayanihan sa Kapaskuhan”, LRMC lit up the historical plaza with a 50-foot Christmas tree made of steel, rubber gaskets and metal shavings from the maintenance work done on the LRT-1 trains.
The LRMC said these were part of their local tourism promotion in Metro Manila through “Ikot Manila.”
“This yuletide season, LRMC wants to underscore the value of Filipino heroism, and its rich culture and arts as it brings Christmas to Manila,” said Juan Alfonso, LRMC president and chief executive officer.
Aside from the Christmas themed park, the LRT-1 Christmas train is also launched, keeping the spirit of Christmas alive among its passengers amid the holiday rush.
The window of the train features tourist destinations in Metro Manila for shopping, dining and art hubs where families can spend time together during the season while the poles were wrapped in colorful stained-glass-inspired designs.
Commuters who are using smartphones can capture the QR codes on the displays beside the featured locations to access more information about the destinations.
The Christmas Train will start its journey from Baclaran to Monumento throughout the month of December.
