Another group held for traveling with minors

DAVAO CITY – Police operatives in Davao del Sur held the occupants of five trucks found to be transporting 130 persons, most of them minors. midnight Friday.


Police Regional Office 11 (PRO 11) Spokesperson Chief Insp. Jason Baria said the occupants were found to be members of Socsargen Church of Christ Congregation and were held in Sulop town at around 12 midnight November 30.

Baria said the group, led by Pastor Rody Candido, explained to the police the group was travelling on its way to New Bataan, Compostela Valley to participate in the National Youth Convention set on November 30 to December 2.

He said the group was turned-over to Sulop Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office for profiling and verification.

Later, Davao del Sur Police Provincial Office director Sr. Supt. Allan Manibog told Davao reporters the church group from General Santos City proved that the activity was legitimate.

Manibog said it was also verified the religious group has no link to any progressive groups and that they were really going to attend the activity with their minors.

He said the group will be released anytime on Friday since the leaders of the church group were also accompanying their own children.
