Cotabato Archbishop Emeritus Orlando Cardinal Quevedo has warned the faithful against scammers who are soliciting donations using the cardinal’s name.
“I would like to warn you of a scam that has been victimizing some people that consists of using a letter which is supposed to have been signed by me as cardinal and asking for various donations,” Quevedo said over Church-run Radio Veritas.
The prelate noted that the recent incident is not the first time that his name was used to solicit donations. He warned the faithful against giving donations particularly if solicited through social media and to always be wary of scammers.
“To be very sure about any appeal for help in my name, be sure to contact us first, the office of the archbishop and ask for any of the priest to verify whether it is true or not,” Quevedo added.
The cardinal also warned fellow Church leaders against scammers who use their name to solicit money from unsuspecting individuals.
