TAGBILARAN CITY – A peace and security summit will be held in Panglao today and tomorrow with stakeholders expected to pitch in their ideas in relation to peace and order.
A statement from the office of Panglao Mayor Leonila Montero said that the summit will be held at the Panglao Cultural Center.
The same statement said that the summit gathers members of various sectors in the business and transportation industry.
Among those invited are personalities in the business sector especially those involved in tourism-related activities such as resort owners, dive shops and souvenir shop owners, among others.
Panglao is considered as Bohol tourism’s crown jewel.
The white sand beaches and more than 10 dive sites scattered around town are the main tourist attractions of the town.
It is also expected the top brass of the Philippine National Police from the region will arrive for the peace and security summit.
The town is also the host of the new international airport.
The turnover of the New Bohol Panglao International Airport is slated on November 27, according to the latest information received by the provincial government from the Department of Transportation.
With the impending opening of the new airport, the town will be faced with increasing security challenges as an influx of tourists is expected in Bohol in the next 24 months.
At least 2 million visitors are expected to arrive per year after the opening of the new airport.
