The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) assured on Saturday that the woman who was allegedly raped by two cops inside a police mobile will be given security after claiming that she has been receiving death threats.
NCRPO Director Guillermo Eleazar said that by throwing support to alias Maria, the woman who is accusing PO1 Severiano Montalban and PO1 Jayson Portuguez of rape, the metro police proves that it is not tolerating all illegal acts being committed by erring cops.
The 22-year-old victim, in a radio interview over DZMM, claimed she has been receiving death threats for her to back out on the criminal charges she lodged against the Quezon City-based cops.
“I’m afraid to visit my husband in jail because I have been receiving death threats. I refused to go to the house that we have been renting out of fear,” Maria said in Filipino.
“I plead to you, do not leave me in this fight. Give me support because right now, I don’t feel very safe due to the threats I’m getting,” she asked Eleazar.
In response, the NCRPO Chief said that he will support Maria in pursuing the case against the accused cops and if the suspects indeed committed the crime, he said they will be punished with the full force of the law.
“Rest assured that we will not tolerate this. In fact, I salute and thank you for standing up. Because of your bravery and strength, this will serve as a stern warning against all other cops to think many times before committing the same offense. With what you have done, you are saving the future victims,” Eleazar told Maria.
Maria and five other women were arrested on November 2 supposedly for illegal gambling, hours after she visited her live-in partner at the Novaliches police detention cell. Maria’s partner was earlier apprehended for the same offense.
The arrested women were brought to the Quezon City General Hospital where they were subjected to medical examination but Maria said she approached PO1 Severiano to spare her since her partner was already detained.
Allegedly, Montalban agreed to Maria’s favor but in exchange for having sexual intercourse with him. The crime happened inside the police mobile parked outside the hospital.
After that, Maria told investigators that Montalban called Portuguez for his “turn” but the latter told him to perform other sexual acts on him.
The two cops were arrested earlier last week when Maria sought help from the office of Eleazar.
Last month, another case of sex-for-freedom scheme was recorded in Manila when a rookie policeman assigned to the Manila Police District (MPD) allegedly raped a 15-year-old girl whose parents were detained for drug-related charges.
