Bureau of Immigration (BI) agents have arrested six foreign nationals for allegedly engaging in illegal mining operations in Bulacan.

In a report to BI Commissioner Jaime Morente, BI intelligence chief Fortunato Manahan Jr. said the aliens were caught at the office of Xiaobo Scrap Trading in Loma de Gato, Marilao, Bulacan.

They were identified as Taiwanese Cheng Yi Huang, and Chinese nationals Junbo Deng, Yunli Zhou, Jun Li, Wei Lin, and Weike Qu.

Manahan said that except for Cheng, who has valid resident visa, the five others were found to be overstaying and undocumented.

It was learned that concerned Marilao residents reported the presence of the undesirable aliens who were also into illegal export business.

Morente vowed no let-up drive against undocumented aliens who deprived Filipinos of jobs and livelihood opportunities.

“We welcome the influx of foreign nationals who work here as long as they comply with regulatory requirements and abide by our laws,” said Morente.

He clarified that foreigners intending to work in the Philippines must secure a work permit from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and a working visa from the BI.

Records showed that 15,970 foreign nationals have secured permits to work in the country last year.
