Vice President Ma. Leonor “Leni” Robredo has reiterated the importance of the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL) in bringing peace and development to Mindanao.
The Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL), which was renamed BOL (BOL), creates the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) to replace the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM).
President Rodrigo Duterte has signed into law the landmark BOL, which aims to put an end to the conflict in Mindanao.
In underscoring the BOL’s importance, Robredo said: “Kasi malaking mensahe siya — malaking mensahe na nagtitiwala ang gobyerno, nagtitiwala ang taumbayan, sa mga kapatid natin dito sa ARMM, na kaya nilang i-lead iyong lugar papunta sa kaginhawaan at kapayapaan (It’s because of its big message – that the government has trust; the nation has trust in our brothers in the ARMM to lead their area towards prosperity and peace).”
The law is the culmination of a peace deal signed between the Moro Islamic Liberation Front and past administrations.
Robredo expressed her support for the implementation of the signed BOL. “Kasi for many years, parang wala iyong tiwalang iyon. Parang sinasabi, ‘kahit hindi kami taga-diyan, kami iyong may solusyon sa problema niyo,’ na iyon iyong pinagmumulan ng problema (For many years, there did not seem to be any trust. It was being said, ‘we may not be from there, but we have the solution for you,’ and that was where the problem started),” added Robredo.
The Vice President said she was elated over the passage of the law since it was a “significant step” to achieve peace and development in Mindanao.
