Former Carigara, Leyte mayor Anlie Go Apostol has been slapped with a graft charge before the Sandiganbayan Second Division due to the reportedly anomalous purchase of materials worth P5.4 million for the municipality's water projects in 2010.

The former mayor was accused of violating Section 3(e) of R.A. 3019 or the Anti Graft and Corrupt Practices Act in the charge sheet filed by Assistant Special Prosecutor III Jorge B. Espinal.

On April 8, 2010, Apostol allegedly gave undue advantage to New Leyte Ever Hardware Co. Inc. The municipality supposedly purchased construction materials from the company amounting to P5,417,852.82 for the rehabilitation and repair of the small water impounding projects in barangays Binibihan, San Isidro and Paglaum - all in Carigara.

Apostol even caused the disbursement of public funds in favor of New Leyte Ever Hardware since he instructed chief administrative officer Crescente Precia to sign the acceptance and inspection report.

In doing so, the payment would be processed to the company notwithstanding the fact that the delivery of construction materials was not yet made.

Apostol's bail bond has been set at P30,000. Precia, together with Sangguniang Bayan members Dennis Garay and Joenlee Larraga will serve as witnesses to the case.
