ILOILO CITY – Only one member of the Garin clan will run for congressman in the 1st district of Iloilo, even if three of them filed their certificate of candidacy (COC) for the said post.
“There is no competition. We will be one in First District,” said Iloilo 1st District Rep. Richard Garin, who was the first to filed his COC.
Former health secretary Janette Loreto-Garin and Guimbal Mayor Oscar Garin also filed their COCs before Commission on Elections (Comelec) as congressional candidate for the first district, which covers southern Iloilo province.
The former health secretary is the wife of Rep. Garin, son of Mayor Garin
Rep. Garin clarified this is not a political drama, but a contingency plan since it has not been finalized who among them will run.
He bared that while he was the first to file his COC, he later decided not to seek reelection.
“It means the congressional candidate will either be former secretary Garin or Mayor Garin,” Rep. Garin said.
The Garin clan will decide on their Congressional candidate on or before November 29, the deadline for the withdrawal or substitution of candidates.
