“Even if I’m running in the Senate, I’m still the lawyer because I’m not prohibited from handling cases,” he told the media after filing his certificate of candidacy for senator.
“It won’t be a problem,” added Macalintal.
“I’ve always wanted to enter politics. I really wanted to run for the Senate but it seems it's not yet the right time. Now, I feel its already okay,” he said.
Running as an independent candidate, the 71-year old Macalintal vowed to push for the rights and interest of senior citizens.
He said since senior citizens are burdened by their medicines and medical services, he would push for a higher discount for them.
“So to the youth, please remember someday you will understand why I’m doing this,” said Macalintal.
“Someday I will be gone, but I will leave behind me as my legacy laws for when you (the youth) get old. That is the essence of my program,” he added.
