Former head of Eastern Police District and retired police Chief Supt. Elmer Jamias announced on Sunday that he would run for vice mayor of Manila as an independent candidate.
Jamias said that some mayoralty candidates offered to be his running mate, but he has chosen to go solo in his vice mayoralty bid.
He said that he wanted to give the service Manileños deserve and give priority to sanitation and curbing corruption.
“I’ll clean up Manila and its city hall,” he said.
He was also awarded as an Outstanding Manilan in 1999 under the criminal justice category. He was portrayed by then presidential son and former Senator Jinggoy Estrada in the film “Col. Elmer Jamias: Barako ng Maynila.” in 2000.
Jamias also served as deputy director for administration of the Southern Police District (SPD) and had a confrontation with then Vice President Jejomar Binay when police blocked the supporters of Makati Mayor Junjun Binay from entering the Makati City hall compound when the second suspension order against the mayor was about to be served in June 2015.
On June 14, 2015, he was also appointed as the Deputy Director of the Directorate of Information and Communication Technology Management.
