Locsin, the country's representative to the United Nations, confirmed the news of his appointment on Twitter.

"I was asked I said yes; but love UN, the many friends & intellectual companions I made. But I didn’t say no when asked as I didn’t when he told me I was UN ambassador," Locsin said when asked if Duterte offered him the DFA secretary post.

Prior his appointment as UN representative, Locsin served as presidential legal counsel and speechwriter to former president Corazon Aquino.

Locsin will replace current Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano who will run for congressman of Taguig City in the 2019 elections.
