The House of Representatives has approved on third and final reading the measure seeking to provide persons with disabilities (PWDs) mandatory access to health care.
With 204 voting in the affirmative and zero negative, the House approved on final reading HB 8014, the “An Act Providing for the Mandatory PhilHealth Coverage of All Persons with Disability (PWD).”
The bill consolidates 14 different legislative proposals authored by Reps. Alfred Vargas III (PDP-Laban, Quezon City); Winston Castelo (PDP-Laban, QuezonCity); Mikee Romero (1PACMAN Parytlist); Tricia Nicole Velasco-Catera (Ang Mata Partylist); Alfredo Garbin (Ako Bicol Partylist); and Micaela Violago (NPC, Nueva Ecija).
Vargas said the bill proposed amendments to Republic Act 7277, the “Magna Carta for Persons with Disability.”
He explained that the measure fulfills the constitutional mandate of the State to provide medical treatment to PWDs.
Romero said that automatic Philhealth coverage for PWDs not currently afforded health insurance will be funded from government collections from sin taxes.
