Vice President Ma. Leonor “Leni” Robredo will have the final say in the opposition coalition’s senatorial slate for the 2019 midterm elections, Liberal Party (LP) President Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan said.
Pangilinan added that the opposition is in no hurry to fill up its senatorial slate.
“Sa amin, kung 12 lang ’di naman problema; but do we have to fill up the 12? Can we? Of course, we can. But do we want to fill up the 12 slots? That’s another thing,” Pangilinan said.
Pangilinan said the LP coalition wants to ensure that its limited resources would be spent on winnable candidates in the May 2019 elections.
But as far as their selection process is concerned, Pangilinan said the coalition’s advisory council will be the one tasked to come up with their final list of senatorial candidates that would be submitted to the vice president for approval.
“At si VP Leni ang magpapasya base dun sa sinumite kung sino ang magiging kandidato ng coalition, (And it will be VP Leni who will decide based on the list to be submitted who the candidates of the coalition will be),” he said.
