Ex-Samar mayor hurt, bodyguard killed in shooting incident

SAN JOSE DE BUAN, Samar — A former mayor of this upland town was shot early Monday morning with his bodyguard at Brgy. Babaclayon here.

The victims were identified as Ananias Rebato, 57 years old, married, and Severino Tesorio, 24, his bodyguard, married both residents of Brgy. Poblacion here.

PInsp. Prizeno Cmacho said Rebato attended the vesper night celebration in the said barangay when the shooting occurred.

“When they were about to board in their service vehicle heading home, more or less four unidentified armed persons fired at Rebato and his bodyguard hitting them in different parts of their body,” he said.

The bodyguard was able to return fire, which resulted in the death of one of the perpetrators.

Tesorio was killed on the spot, while the former mayor who is in critical condition was brought to Tacloban City for medication.

Meanwhile, the suspect’s dead body is still in Samar Provincial Hospital Morgue and has not yet been identified nor claimed by his family.
