Two fishermen, one of them a 13-year-old boy, were rescued in the waters off San Francisco, Camotes, and Danao City, Cebu after they went missing while fishing on the area, the Philippine Coast Guard said in a belated report.

Fisherman Dino Saringa, 32, and his 13-year-old nephew, who are both residents of Puertobello, San Francisco, Cebu went for a fishing venture on Friday last week onboard motorboat “Mary Jane.”

According to their families, they failed to return home on that day prompting them to report to the Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) Camotes and reported that the Saringa and his nephew have yet to return from the seas. CGSS Camotes coordinated with CGSS Danao for a rescue operation.

A team from Danao then launched a search and rescue operation on the area where they found the two missing fishermen.

Saringa told the authorities that they encountered engine failure causing them to drift between the waters off Camotes Islands, Cebu, and Hingutanan Island, Bien Unido, Bohol.

They went home with no injuries, the Coast Guard said.

With this, Coast Guard Sub-Station Camotes reiterated to the fisherfolks in the area not to venture out to the sea during unfavorable weather and sea condition.
