Suspicious box triggers bomb scare in Tondo

Fear gripped residents in Tondo, Manila after a suspicious box was left in the area on Tuesday morning.

Investigation revealed that Pearl dela Cruz, a volunteer traffic enforcer saw the box placed in front of F.C. Calderon Elementary School on Hermosa and Limay streets in Tondo, Manila at around 6:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Dela Cruz was alarmed with what she saw prompting her to immediately report it to the police.

Police cordoned off the area and upon opening the box, authorities discovered that it only contained assorted used clothes.

No hazardous material was found inside the box after the inspection.

“If you see suspicious things in the streets, report immediately to the police, do not touch it and stay away from the item,” Arnold Santos, Police Chief Insp. of the Manila Police District-Explosive and Ordinance Division (EOD) section told the Manila Bulletin.

On Monday, National Teacher’s College (NTC) in Quiapo, Manila received a bomb threat. No explosives were recovered.

It can also be recalled that series of bomb threats hit Manila universities last week.
