Smart Wifi opens gateway of new possibilities for students and brands

Strengthening its support for the education sector, Smart Comunications Inc. has expanded the coverage of its Smart Wifi rollouts in more than 100 school areas across the Philippines. As a member of the World Broadband Alliance (WBA), Smart aims to provide seamless connectivity to greater majority through the said service.

“As we continue to lead the country’s transformation into a smart nation, we at PLDT believe in equipping the youth with the means to enrich their knowledge and help them excel in any field they choose to pursue,” adds Jovy Hernandez, SVP and Head of PLDT & Smart Enterprise Business Groups.

Ultrafast Internet connectivity through Smart Wifi is now available in the University of the Philippines-Diliman, De La Salle University-Manila, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Muntinlupa, Emilio Aguinaldo College, Adamson University, Navotas Polytechnic College, and San Sebastian College. Outside Metro Manila, the service is now available in Ateneo de Naga, University of Cebu, University of Mindanao, University of Bohol, Tarlac Agricultural University, and Letran Calamba.

Offering speeds of up to 100Mbps, the presence of Smart Wifi in these key centers of learning enables students to have access to virtually limitless online resource materials for research, download and upload files faster, and stay connected with other students and instructors through email and social media.

In addition, Smart Wifi opens doors of opportunities for brands to reach younger demographics via Smart WiFi Ads. Going beyond the limits of conventional online advertising, Smart Wifi Ads is a customized and targeted marketing solution that allows businesses to directly reach and engage specific audiences.

“With the availability of Smart Wifi in universities this year, we are opening the door for brand marketers to innovatively advertise using Smart Wifi Ads, allowing them to be very targeted in reaching their intended audience,” said PLDT VP and Head of Enterprise Core Business Solutions Jojo Gendrano.

Brands can explore new possibilities the different forms of Smart Wifi ad can offer. A banner or interstitial ad combines clickable material with access to the brand’s website. A promo page with triggered SMS sends a text message to the user’s mobile number upon clicking the ad. Sponsored access grants customers free Wi-Fi usage by simply watching a non-skippable video or responding to a survey. Lastly, there is also Wi-Fi rental which provides advertisers with a branded SSID and landing page for a customizable Wi-Fi experience that gives customers free 30-minute Internet access after keying in a PIN, watching a video, or answering a survey.
