President Duterte is expected to visit Cagayan and Ilocos Norte, two provinces hit by Typhoon Ompong, today.
Based on official schedule, Duterte is set to attend situation briefings on the effects of the typhoon in Tuguegarao City, Cagayan at around 12 p.m., and at in Ilocos Norte two hours later.
Duterte is also set to make his way to Isabela, another province hit by the typhoon, on Tuesday.
Earlier, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said that Duterte will be the first to visit the areas affected by the typhoon as soon as the weather permits him.
“But knowing him, he will be the first to go to the affected area as soon as the weather allows his chopper to take off,” Roque said Saturday morning.
Presidential Communications Operation Office (PCOO) Secretary Martin Andanar said that Duterte is just waiting for the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) so that he can fly to the affected areas.
“Inaasahan ni Presidente iyan matapos lang itong bagyo ay lilipad at lilipad diyan ang Presidente,” Roque said.
In a text message late Satuday, Special Assistant to the President Christopher Go confirmed that Duterte will be going to Cagayan and Ilocos Norte today.
On Thursday, Duterte presided over a command conference at the NDRRMC office to ensure the preparation of the government as Ompong enters the Philippines. Duterte also instructed some of his Cabinet members to go the areas which would be affected by the typhoon.
“The Ilocanos in the Cabinet were tasked to go to their respective home provinces. ,” Roque said, referring to Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III and Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade who were tasked to go to Isabela and Cagayan, respectively.
