“May the Lord keep the hearts and bodies of those of us who are engaged in the difficult task of preparing and delivering relief goods and assistance, those doing medical help, those who join in rescue operations, strong and optimistic,” said Davao Archbishop Romulo Valles in an interview over Radio Veritas on Saturday.

“May their presence among those who are suffering because of this calamity bring hope and strength,” he added.

Caritas Manila, the social action arm of the Archdiocese of Manila, has given an initial financial aid worth P1 million to five dioceses in Northern Luzon on Friday.

Fr. Anton CT Pascual, executive director of Caritas Manila, said they prepositioned P200,000 to the dioceses of Batanes, Tuguegarao, Ilagan, Laoag, and Tabuk to help them prepare for relief operations.

Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Tagle has also called on the faithful to continue praying for the country against the typhoon.
