DOH monitoring health conditions in evacuation centers

The Department of Health (DOH) said it is continuously monitoring the health conditions of families in evacuation centers affected by typhoon Ompong.

Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said on Saturday they are monitoring the possible spread of acute respiratory infection, hypertension, colds and fever among evacuees, adding that health professionals are monitoring the situation in evacuation centers.

“Meron na po tayong mga nakahandang mga doctor, nurses, mga response teams. Binabantayan nila kung may sakaling outbreaks or epidemya sa mga naturang evacuation centers,” Duque said during a press briefing.

[We have doctors, nurses, and response teams. They are monitoring possible disease outbreaks or epidemic in evacuation centers.]

The health chief said there were 34 emergency health response teams stationed in the regions of Ilocos, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, National Capital Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Bicol, Western Visayas, and Central Visayas.

“Moreover, there are also health emergency management bureau [that] has already deployed two teams to participate in rapid damage assessment and needs analysis and the national incident management teams in Clark, Pampanga,” he added.

Duque also reported that two DOH offices in Cagayan Valley region have sustained structural damage.

“Batay sa ulat ng Region 2 meron tayong dalawang DOH buildings na apektado, medyo matindi ang tama at sabi ko sa kanila ‘you do a rapid assessment kung ano ang extent ng damage,'” he said.

[Based on the report of Region 2, we have two DOH buildings that sustained damage and I instructed (DOH regional officers) to do a rapid assessment on the extent of the damage.]
