‘Neneng’ to bring rains in Northern Luzon

The low-pressure area (LPA) spotted near Basco, Batanes has developed into Tropical Depression “Neneng” and will bring heavy rains over extreme Northern Luzon, the state weather agency said Monday.

In the latest weather bulletin issued by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) this afternoon, the center of the tropical depression was at 120 kilometers north of Basco, Batanes.

Neneng packs maximum winds of up to 45 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 60 kph while moving south-southwest at 10 kph.

The weather disturbance will bring occasional rains with gusty winds over Batanes.

Moderate to occasionally heavy rains will prevail over Babuyan Group of Islands and scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms is expected over Ilocos Norte and Apayao brought by the trough of Neneng.

PAGASA advised residents in these areas, especially those living near river channels, in low-lying areas and in mountainous areas, to take appropriate actions against possible flooding and landslides.

Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal (TCWS) No. 1 was also raised in Batanes at 12 p.m., Friday.

Fisherfolk and those with small seacraft are advised not to venture out over the seaboard of Batanes, PAGASA said.

Neneng is expected to exit the Philippine area of responsibility on Tuesday.
