Suspected carnapper killed; stray bullet hits bystander in Batangas

BATANGAS— A suspected carnapper was killed in an armed encounter with Malvar town’s police and the Highway Patrol Group (HPG) while a bystander was hit by a stray bullet in an anti-illegal drug operations.

Malvar chief of police Chief Inspector Arwin Baby Caimbon said the slain suspect has still to be verified.

Caimbon said a certain Ruel Mata personally informed the police that his Yamaha Mio motorcycle with plate 3093-LW was forcibly taken by two unidentified suspects at past midnight Wednesday.

The local police coordinated with the HPG in a joint follow-up operation that resulted in an armed encounter, killing one of the suspects while his companion managed to escape on board a black motorcycle. Recovered from the suspect was one cal.45 and the stolen motorcycle.

In Lipa City, bystander Noel Nopera was hit in the shoulder by a straybullet when an encounter ensued during a buy-bust operation in barangay Marawoy at around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

One of the suspects, Roldan De Castro was arrested by the operatives of Lipa City Police while his two companions eluded the arrest.

Police recovered two sachets with suspected shabu, cellphone and marked money from the suspect.
