More than 9,000 workers of Dole Philippines Inc. Cannery in Polomolok, South Cotabato will soon be regularized.
Labor Undersecretary Joel Maglunsod said Secretary Silvestre Bello is expected to go to South Cotabato this week to sign a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with Dole Philippines on the regularization of the workers.
“There is a MOA signing on the regularization of more than 9,000 workers,” he said in a press briefing Wednesday.
But, Maglunsod said this wont be immediate as there will still be an action plan that would have to be implemented.
“Our efforts on the campaign against contractualization and in addressing other concerns of workers continue,” he said.
“If workers have questions they should go to the nearest office of DOLE,” added Maglunsod.
Last May, the Labor department revealed that a total of 3,377 companies were found to be engaged and suspected to be engaged in labor only contracting arrangements .
Dole Philippines was included in the list of top 20 non-compliant workers with 10,521 affected workers.
DOLE Department Order No. 174 prohibits labor–only contracting, which exist when the contractor merely recruits, supplies or places workers to perform a job for a principal under employment arrangements designed to circumvent the right of workers to security of tenure
As of May 11, 2018, a total of 176,286 workers have been regularized through the intensified labor enforcement system of the labor department.
