Cops seize P275k worth of marijuana from three peddlers in QC drug sting

Police confiscated P275,000 worth of marijuana from three alleged drug peddlers during a drug sting in Quezon City early Monday.

Quezon City Police District Director, Chief Superintendent Joselito Esquivel Jr., identified the arrested suspects as Francis Marie Nepomuceno, 28, Michael Gontinias, 29, and Mikhael Divinagracia, 30.

Esquivel said the trio, who police said were known drug peddlers in their area, were placed under intelligence monitoring for two months.

Joint operatives of QCPD-La Loma Police Station (PS-1), National Capital Region Police Office Regional Drug Enforcement Unit, and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-NCR set a drug deal against the suspects and ordered five kilos of marijuana worth P100,000.

Undercover police officers went along A. Bonifacio Avenue in Balintawak around 1:30 a.m. to meet with the group who arrived onboard a black Toyota Innova with conduction number A2L380.

After the deal, Nepomuceno sensed they were dealing with a police officer prompting him to command Gontinias to speed off toward Mayon Street.

Policemen pursued the suspects resulting in a brief car chase.

Authorities successfully blocked the suspects along Malaya Street that led to their arrest.

Seized from them were 15 kilos of dried marijuana leaves with estimated street value of P275,000.

According to the police, the suspects are members of a drug syndicate operating in Metro Manila and Nueva Ecija who get their supply of marijuana from a still undisclosed area in Baguio City.

The arrested drug suspects are now under police custody and were charged with violation of Republic Act 9165 or The Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. (Alexandria Dennise San Juan)
