CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga – A 103-year-old scavenger, who is living alone received a most welcome surprise when police officers from the 302nd Maneuver Company Regional Mobile Force Battalion 3 showered her with compasison and presents here recently.
Central Luzon regional police director Chief Supt. Amador V. Corpus promptly lauded and hailed the good deed of PO2 Alberto Reyes and his colleagues.
PO2 Reye, together with his buddies, were on foot patrol last August 16, inside Clark Field, Pampanga when they spotted Lola Rosa collecting scraps and recyclables.
The police officers approached her learned that the Leyte native now lives alone in a shanty in Marcos Village, Mabalacat City.
The police officers also found out that it was her 103rd birth anniversary.
Reyes and his colleagues later visited the elderly woman in her shanty and brought a birthday cake and some food to share.
Lola Rosa expressed her gratitude to the caring police officers who went out of their way to attend to her and brought her joy on her natal day.
The police officers are now coordinating with the concerned government agencies to determine how Lola Rosa can avail of benefits from government programs for centenarians like her.
“I am proud of our police officers. This genuine act of kindness they have shown to our elderly only proves that your PNP are not here only to serve and protect but also to care and bring happiness in our own little way,” Corpus said.
