Around 700 families temporarily housed in evacuation centers in Bulacan received much-needed relief packs on Wednesday afternoon from the Philippine National Police (PNP).

PNP chief, Director General Oscar Albayalde personally handed out the relief goods to the residents staying at the Calumpit Sports Complex.

“Tulong na natin ito sa ating mga kababayan na sinalanta ng kalamidad. Sabi ko nga, this is one way of sharing our blessings na natatanggap naman natin (This is our way of helping our countrymen who were affected by the calamity. Like what I’ve said, this is one way of sharing our blessings which we have received),” he said.

Each family received two plastic packs of relief goods. Each pack contained two kilos of rice, canned goods, and a bottle of water.

Albayalde said police officers personally packed the goods at Camp Crame. Some of the goods were purchased with funds from the budget of the PNP, while others were donated by police personnel and other non-government organizations and civic society groups.

Bulacan was heavily affected by floods caused by heavy downpour last week.

Aside from Calumpit, Albayalde said they will also distribute food packs in Malolos, and other provinces including Bataan, Pampanga and Pangasinan.

The PNP earlier handed out relief goods to families displaced by floods in Marikina City.

Meanwhile, Albayalde urged the affected residents to keep their faith and remain strong in these trying times.

“Sa ating mga kababayan, tayo ay nalulungkot at nakikiramay lalo na sa mga binaha at ang mga gamit ay nasira dahil sa ulan (To our countrymen, we are saddened and we symphatize eith you especially those who were victimized by the flood and their personal belongings and properties destroyed due to the rain),” he said.

“Sa may kakayahang tumulong, sana ay tulungan natin ang ating mga kababayan na nasa evacuation centers. Sa ganitong pagkakataon ay kailangan nila tayo (To those who can offer help, I hope they would lend a hand especially to people who remain in evacuation centers. In these times, they needed us more),” Albayalde added.
