Sr. Supt. Marlon Tayaba, director of the Iloilo provincial police, confirmed the sacking of the officers to Manila Bulletin.

Tayaba said the decision to relieve the officers came after three random inspections found that they were not at the police station.

“Some went home. Some went to their children’s school. They were not there (at the station). They were doing personal matters during duty hours,” Tayaba said.

Because the officers were not at the station, the number of criminal incidents rose, he said.

“They really don’t have any major accomplishment,” Tayaba said, referring to the policemen, whose identities were not released.

Tayaba hopes the replacement officers will perform better under the leadership of Sr. Insp. Ascencion Ortizo.

The relieved officers have been reassigned to different stations in Iloilo province.

Since being assigned as Iloilo province’s top cop, Tayaba has stressed the need for the officers to stay alert following the raid by New People’s Army (NPA) guerrillas on the police station in Maasin town last year.
