Owner of vehicle used in Lamitan blast identified

ZAMBOANGA CITY – Police authorities in Basilan province have established the registered owner of the Hyundai van which was used as a car bomb that killed 11 people in Colonia, Lamitan City last July 31.

Based on a police reports reaching here, the Hyundai van was first bought in Region 12, and was sold to two people, including a policeman.

It was finally sold to a resident of Mohammad Ajul town, the last owner to have owned the vehicle prior to the incident.

Lawmen are already trying to reach the vehicle’s owner to get information on how the van landed in the hands of the bombers.

Police refused to release the names of the owners pending investigation.

At least 11 persons were killed while seven were wounded when a suspected suicide bomber triggered a powerful car bomb near an Army detachment along the Magwakit intersection of Barangays Bulanting and Colonia, Lamitan City last July 31.

The bomb was reportedly intended for a parade culminating Nutrition Month in Lamitan City where hundreds were expected to attend.
