NYC cluster head for the Visayas, Sheridan Athena Gajete told the Manila Bulletin that simultaneous activities were held in the cities of Vinan, Iriga, Iligan, Cebu, Iloilo, Dagupan and Cebu Province.

“We are expecting more than 300 youth participants in each venue including that on Sunday at the Cebu Grand Hotel, Escario Street. These participants include youth volunteers, Sangguniang Kabataan officials and the representatives from the various youth sectors in the neighboring provinces,” Gajete said.

Gajete added that the IYD is an event celebrated yearly every 12th day of August.

This year, the IYD aims to increase awareness on what is safe space, to determine youth’s perspectives on safe space and to advocate the role of the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) in governance as one of the champions in ensuring and providing safe space for the youth.

The one-day event is replete with round table discussions and workshops on the IYD theme “Safe Places for the Youth” with presenters from the International Labor Organization, Glenda Pardillo and keynote message from NYC Assistant Secretary Rhea Penaflor, Gajete bared.
