CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro – A female Chinese national drowned while swimming taking a dip in the waters off Barangay Bucana in El Nido, Palawan last Thursday.
Superintendent Imelda V. Tolentino, chief public information officer of Police Regional Office-Mimaropa (Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan) identified the victim as Sun Xuiyan, widow, nutritionist, of Chongqing, China who temporarily stayed in a transient house in Barangay Maligaya, El Nido.
Based on investigation, the victim, together with his boyfriend, David Russel Thomas, 66, an Australian national went to Nacpan Beach when the Chinese national was swept to deeper waters.
Thomas shouted for help, but several tourists and a lifeguard who came to her rescue failed to revive her.
She was brought to a local health office but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
