The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has clarified that Australian professor and rallyist Gill Hale Boehringer is not detained.

BI spokesperson Dana Krizia Sandoval explained that the foreigner remains at the exclusion room of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) and under the care of the airliner that will take him back to his original port of origin, Guanzhu in China

Sandoval said Boehringer was not able to immediately board his plane for health reason.

He was barred from entering the country upon his arrival the other day for being undesirable alien and a threat to national security.

He joined the anti-government demonstration in 2015.

BI regulations prohibit alien visitors from participating in any political activity for or against the government.

“We wish to dispel the notion that Mr. Boehringer is detained by BI. Custody has been with the airline immediately upon exclusion, and he has been staying in the airline’s exclusion room pending his return flight, which is a decent and comfortable stay.” Sandoval said.

The BI has denied his appeal to enter the country.
