Barangay chairman shot dead in Pasay

A barangay chairman was gunned down by two unidentified armed men on board a motorcycle while sitting outside a barangay outpost Wednesday night.

The man was identified as JovieDecena, 47, barangay captain of Barangay 28 and a resident of Toyo Compound, Villaruel St., Pasay City.

Decena sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was rushed to the Pasay City General Hospital for medical treatment but was declared dead on arrival.

Investigation showed that the incident occurred at about 10:30 p.m. along Villaruel St., Barangay 28 Zone 4, Pasay City. According to barangay kagawad Federico Mandue, he was sitting beside Decena, conversing outside the outpost.

Suddenly two armed men with their faces covered appeared and fired multiple shots at Decena before speeding away toward A. Luna St., Pasay City. Mandue said that he heard eight gunshots fired but before the suspects fled.

He immediately asked for help to bring Decena to the nearest medical institution but he later died. The barangay kagawad said that this was Decena's second term as chairman and they have rounded up a lot of drug personalities in their area during his stint.

Pasay City Police Chief Senior Supt. Noel Flores has ordered the immediate investigation of the case and told the police to check and acquire all CCTV footages in the area.

Decena's body is currently at Rizal Funeral homes for an autopsy examination.
