Tectonic quakes shake Surigao del Sur, Zamboanga del Sur

BUTUAN CITY - Two mild tectonic earthquakes shook Surigao del Sur and Zamboanga del Sur provinces Tuesday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

However, the two tremors did not cause any damage or injury, the state agency said

In its bulletin, Phivolcs said a 3.2 magnitude earthquake was recorded at 6:31 a.m. Tuesday with the epicenter plotted only 6 kilometers (km) away from the town proper of Cortes, Surigao del Sur province, it said. The epicenter had a depth of 52 km.

Earlier, a 4.4 magnitude tremor was also registered at 6:18 a.m., also on Tuesday morning, Phivolcs said.

The epicenter was traced 26 km southeast of Tabina, Zamboanga del Sur province.

The tremor had a depth of 16 km, it also said.

Intensity 2 was recorded in Iligan City while Intensity 1 was registered in Zamboanga City.

Two other mild tectonic earthquakes, measuring 2.2 and 2.3 magnitude, were also registered in the same town.
