SAN JOSE, Batangas — A suspected rapist of a 17-year-old student was killed in a shootout between him and the patrolling policemen here, Thursday afternoon.
San Jose chief of police, Chief Insp. Virgilio Jopia identified the suspect as Loly Pereda, 25, a junk shop helper and resident of Lipa City.
Jopia said the police team was conducting mobile patrolling at around 4:20 p.m. in Sitio Camarin, Barangay Lalayat when the victim and her parents approached the team and reported the rape incident just happened two hours ago.
The victim was walking at the street when the suspect dragged her at the grassy area, gagged the victim’s mouth with handkerchief and allegedly raped the victim alias Nene.
Jopia said Nene had the chance to escape and ran when the suspect heard an incoming tricycle.
After being informed about the incident, the patrol team spotted the suspect while on board a blue motorcycle with sidecar but when they were about to arrest Pereda, he allegedly opened fire prompting police to retaliate hitting the suspect.
Pereda was rushed to San Jose District Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
