GENERAL SANTOS CITY – The police regional command here has urged on Thursday the public to report policemen who are involved in criminal activities amid the reported involvement of several policemen in kidnap-for-ransom activities in Metro Manila.
Chief Supt. Marcelo Morales, Police Regional Office-12 director, sought the cooperation of the community in the campaign against rogue policemen who are into illegal activities.
Morales issued a stern warning to rogue policemen following a police shootout between SWAT personnel and four policemen who figured in a kidnap-for-ransom fiasco in Taguig City last Wednesday.
A policeman was killed while his three cohorts were arrested during the entrapment operation for the pay-off of the ransom.
Morales said the police regional command will not condone misfits and scalawags in the police organization who are into criminal activities.
He stressed that local police commanders will be sanctioned administratively if they fail to discipline erring subordinates or will try to cover up their wrongdoings.
He said the cleansing of misfits and scalawags within the police organization is vital to the PNP’s effective campaign against illegal drugs and criminality.
“How can the PNP implement the law effectively if their personnel are the ones breaking the law,” Morales said.
Morales cited the strong cooperation among the police regional command, local officials and community which resulted in the successful campaign against illegal drugs and criminality.
Meanwhile, the Sangguniang Panlungsod here cited a policeman who was injured during a shootout with a local ISIS terrorist leader in Barangay Fatima last July 16.
PO3 Jerry Feo, assigned with the Regional Mobile Force Battalion, was wounded after the suspected terrorist, Najib Pundug, an alleged bomb maker of the ISIS-inspired Maute terror group, traded shots with policemen who stormed his hideout in an outskirt village of Barangay Fatima, this city.
Pundug was killed while his cohort was arrested during the police operation.
