The Clark International Airport Corp. (CIAC) announced yesterday that it had heightened its security measures at the civil aviation complex upon the directive of Secretary Arthur Tugade of the Department of Transportation (DOTr) .
CIAC President Alexander Cauguiran said enhanced Security Condition or SECO Level 2 is being implemented at the Clark International Airport and its premises following a bombing incident in Lamitan, Basilan last Tuesday which reportedly claimed 11 lives.
“Flight operations are not affected and the (security) enhancement is our proactive approach to ensuring public safety, ” Cauguiran said.
Tugade ordered heads of DOTr sectors and attached agencies to heighten security in all airports, seaports, railways, road transport terminals, and issue alert protocols in the wake of the Basilan blast.
“I have directed airport ground personnel to heighten security measures 24/7 on top of our daily strict routine,” Cauguiran said.
The airport chief added that all vehicles and individuals passing through airport premises will be subjected to full inspection, including thorough screening of car trunks, baggage and cargo.
Roving security agents will also be deployed inside the passenger terminal building and the aviation complex, Cauguiran said.
CIAC is also closely coordinating with the Philippine National Police Aviation Security Command and other law enforcement units in manning the airport gates and the airside area.
