Former Ambassador Jose Apolinario “Jun” Lozada has passed away due to a “brain hemorrhage,” his daughter said on Tuesday. He was 67.
Lozada was a member of the House of Representatives, hailing from Negros Occidental.
As a long-time diplomat, Lozada held postings in Austria, Iraq, Vatican, and Palau.
Lozada was also the main author of the Dual Citizenship Act and served as former President Fidel V. Ramos' adviser for foreign affairs in 1992.
He was awarded the Felipe Agoncillo Distinguished Service Award for his contributions in the Foreign Service in 2014, the same year he was diagnosed with prostate cancer.
The Department of Foreign Affairs later paid tribute to Lozada, calling the diplomat as “one who championed the welfare of our diplomats and ‘kababayans’ abroad." (With reports from Roy Mabasa)
