The Partido Demokratiko ng Pilipinas-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) has yet to decide whether or not it will make changes in its leadership following the shake-up at the House of Representatives.
Senator Aquilino (Koko) Pimentel, PDP-Laban president, made the clarification amid pronouncements by Davao City Representative Karlo Nograles that the ruling party will undergo reorganization after the unprecedented change in House leadership last Monday.
Pimentel took a swipe at Nograles, a PDP-Laban member, for his announcement ahead of the party’s officials.
“Only party leadership can make decisions for the party. So wait for party leadership to announce something. Party chairman is President Duterte. Party president is Sen. Pimentel. Party Secretary-General is Rep. Bebot (Pantaleon) Alvarez. Party vice chair is Department of Energy Secretary Al Cusi,” Pimentel stressed in a text message.
But Pimentel, when specifically asked about the possible reorganization, neither denied or confirmed Nograles’ claim.
“Event just happened yesterday. It was sudden. Hence allow us to take stock of the situation. Can’t answer your questions right now as I need to consult pursuant to party processes,” he told reporters.
Nograles on Tuesday said reorganization at PDP-Laban will “obviously” take place after congressmen ousted Alvarez as their House Speaker and elected former President and current Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo to replace him.
“Because of the reorganization of the House leaders who are also members of the PDP-Laban, coincidentally, obviously the party will also have to undergo its own reorganization. That’s the natural consequence of what happened yesterday,” Nograles said.
