Beauty and charity will always be part of Dr. Irene Floro’s advocacies (lakas maka-beauty queen, huh!). She has been organizing beauty pageants for years now and two of the most popular are the Miss Cagayan De Oro and the Mutya ng Pilipinas, regional. (Pwede po ako sumali?)
“It’s about encouraging young girls to make the most of their physical attributes and pursue their dreams. We encourage them not only to focus on beauty but also on their own advocacy” Dr. Irene said.
Her love for pageants gives her a sense of fulfillment. “It’s very fulfilling when you are able to train them. We would even give them jobs after the contest or lead them to some livelihood activities that can help their families.” (May pera sa sash at korona!)
One of her dreams is to produce an international pageant. “What if we can host a Bb. Pilipinas-USA? Yes, I think in the future we can have that!” (Ako nga kahit Bb. Pilipinas-Karuhatan ’di ko keri i-produce!)
The Doctor of Leadership and Management from Cagayan De Oro is certified fashionista. Her sense of style always gets good reviews from the local fashion circle. (Makapag-review nga rin at may test ako bukas!)
“I love Carolina Herrera. She is an icon for me. I also like the styles of Kris Aquino, Gretchen Barretto and Maggie Wilson,” Dr. Irene said.
Dr. Irene hopes to penetrate show business. She dreams of producing independent films and to appear on teleseryes.
“Everytime somebody asks me about showbiz. I would say, ‘Why not?! Let’s explore the world!,’” Dr. Irene shared.
The International Academy for Leadership and Management USA graduate is busy with her Skills Mastery Institute of Livelihood and Entrepreneurship Success (SMILES) Foundation which offers technical and business trainings to communities.
“Our latest project is we are training IDP’s of Marawi outside the relocation camps, those who are not on the radar of government. We teach them organic farming. It is indeed a big help in diverting their attention and not be affected by the effects of the Marawi siege. In this way, we are able to give them psycho-social support,” Dr. Irene explained.
SMILES Foundation will always be a priority for Dr. Irene no matter how she gets busy with her other endeavors.
“I have seen the poverty level in far-flung areas. They have limited access to skills, training and education. It is my moral responsibility to help them. Just paying it forward because God has blessed me with good things in life.” Push!)
