Zubiri said he is “overjoyed” that the Lower House has approved the bicameral committee report on the priority measure, following a setback in its leadership.

“I am overjoyed at the House of Representatives’ decision to prioritize the ratification of the Bangsamoro Organic Law, making it their first order of business during today’s session despite ongoing concerns in their leadership,” Zubiri, sponsor of the measure, said in a statement Tuesday afternoon.

Unlike the Senate, the Lower Chamber failed to ratify the proposed BOL on Monday due to its abrupt adjournment amid then-reports about the election of former President and Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo as House Speaker.

The failure of the House derailed the expected signing of the proposed BOL during President Duterte’s State of the Nation Address (SONA)

Duterte, in his SONA, said he will review the final BOL version for two days before signing it into law.

“I eagerly await the President’s signature, turning this into law, and it is my hope that this signing will mark a new era of just and dignified peace for our brothers and sisters in Muslim Mindanao,” Zubiri said.
