BOC seizes imported goods at Makar port

GENERAL SANTOS CITY- The Bureau of Customs here ordered the seizure of various imported goods which were shipped into the Makar port here without proper import clearance.

Customs collector Angelito Agulto said the contraband consisted of 20 container vans loaded with motorcycles, sugar, and cigarettes worth P25 million had been declared as spare parts of vehicles coming from Indonesia.

He said the shipment of the contraband was not covered with certificate of importation.

BOC officials decided to seize and open the container vans following information that the shipment are considered ‘hot’ items

He said the shipment arrived in Makar port in bunch the past month which raised suspicion since there was no import clearance that was issued for the cargo shipment.

BOC officials are set to locate the consignees of the shipment to explain the misdeclaration of the goods to avoid payment of customs duties.

“We will be investigating and filing charges against the consignees for misdeclaring the content of the container vans.
